“Spokane Girl ‘Miss America’ Second” (The Semi-Weekly Spokesman Review, September 13, 1925)

Although wearing the title “Miss Los Angeles”, the beautiful girl pictured above, who won second place in the national bathing beauty contest for the title of “Miss America” Friday, is in reality a Spokane girl. She is Doll Himmelsbach, who made her home in Spokane and received her dancing training at Bouley’s dancing academy.

She was born in Coeur D’Alene, Idaho, May 22, 1908*. She also lived in Spirit Lake as well as here. In competition with the nation’s greatest beauties, this little girl from the Inland Empire was declared next to the most beautiful girl in the land. She and Miss Fay Lanphier of Alameda, Cal., “Miss California”, were the selection of the judges for the title of “Miss America”. They then cast a secret ballot and Miss Lanphier won.

In recent years Miss Dore has been engaged in filmdom with Mack Sennett and Universal. She is one of the few beauties who does not bob her hair. She still retains the “40 curls” which marked her as a child performer when she was appearing in the dance revues of F.W. Bouley. She recently signed a five-year contract to work for Universal and appears in the big spectacle, “The Phantom of the Opera”.
