“Waits, Wins” (Los Angeles Record, November 30, 1931)

(From an Elmer Fryer portrait)

Adrienne Dore is one beauty contest winner who did more than look beautiful. At 15, when most girls are just out of pig-tails, Adrienne was elected “Miss Los Angeles”.

Then she placed second in a “Miss America” contest. Now, at 21, after waiting and watching her chances, she has made the grade in the movies.

“Maybe I’m snooty,” she says, “but I knew what I wanted and waited until I got it.”

Warner Brothers has just signed her for a five-year contract. When you think of all the beauty contest winners who failed to crash screendom’s golden gates you’ll realize that Adrienne is really a rare creature.
